ma è il metallo
o l'accettare la guerra
che calamita e spappola il cervello ?


nel cuore della valle la ruspa ha scovato
scavando per la casa e quasi urtato
un uovo metallico

deposto dal cannone austriaco
dall'aviazione americana
o dalle guerre stellari in televisione

certo confonderebbe molto le idee
una deflagrazione
nel cuore della valle

ma è il metallo
o l'accettare la guerra
che calamita e spappola il cervello ?

but is it iron or the war refrain
that magnetizes and grinds the brain?

digging for a house in the heart of the valley  
the bulldozer has unearthed 
and almost touched off an iron egg 

laid by an Austrian cannon
by the American aircraft
or by television star wars?

any explosion of course
would sound rather awkward 
in the heart of the valley

but is it iron or the war refrain
that magnetizes and grinds the brain?
